Meta is launching a new communication app, Threads, which is an extension of the Instagram platform. It aims to facilitate close and more personal communication between users. It allows users to share text messages and enter into discussions. Sound familiar? Of course it does, since it was created in competition with the X (Twitter) platform. In today’s article, we will take a closer look at the features, advantages and potential impact of Threads on the digital market.
The app allows users to quickly and easily share photos, videos, text messages, and statuses with selected friends. Threads focuses on privacy and close relationships, prioritizing interactions with close friends. The app is linked to an account on Instagram, but there is also an option to use it without creating a profile, which affects the limitations of several of its features.
Threads offers an automatic status update feature that allows users to let their friends know what they are currently doing without having to manually enter information. By integrating with the phone’s sensors, the app can, for example, show that a user is “on the road,” “at home” or “out for a walk.”
The app allows users to send private text messages, photos and videos to selected contacts from their closest friends list on Instagram. This makes it easy for users to stay in touch with loved ones without having to search through larger groups of friends.
One of the main features of Threads is quick and easy media sharing. The app allows users to take photos and videos directly from within the app, and then instantly send them to designated people.
Users can set statuses manually or use automatic suggestions. Statuses help friends know what’s going on with us without having to write long messages.
Threads focuses on private communication, making users feel more comfortable sharing their experiences with selected people instead of the entire community. The app is designed with speed and convenience in mind, enabling quick messaging and multimedia without unnecessary steps.
Threads encourages people to maintain and deepen relationships with their closest friends, which is especially important at a time when social media often promotes broad but shallow networks.
Meta’s introduction of Threads has influenced the market for social networking applications. Meta’s goal is to get users to spend more time on its platforms instead of using competing services, in this case X. In Poland, Threads came a little later, in December 2023, which had to do with bringing the app into compliance with EU regulations on user data privacy.
The number of app users in the United States is already more than 100 million, but the platform still has not introduced an advertising system. Most likely, this is a community-building stage and advertising solutions like on Instagram or Messsenger will be introduced soon. However, it is worthwhile to get involved on the platform as a brand and include this tool in your communication strategy with users.
We will keep an eye on developments, as Threads has become a direct competitor of X, and this in the long run means the appearance of advertising tools on the new platform.
